Information We Collect
When you use Bitcoin Markets, we only collect the following information:
- Username: Randomly generated during registration
- Password: Stored as a cryptographic hash (bcrypt) - we never store your actual password
- Timestamps: Account creation date and last login time
- Public PGP Keys: Used for end-to-end message encryption
- User-Generated Content: Listings you create and messages you send
What We Don't Collect
We are committed to your privacy and do NOT collect or store:
- IP Addresses: No logging or tracking of your connection details
- Location Data: Beyond the optional county you select for listings
- Browser Information: No fingerprinting or tracking
- Third-Party Analytics: No Google Analytics, tracking pixels, or similar tools
- Cookies for Tracking: Only session cookies for authentication
Message Encryption
All messages between users are end-to-end encrypted using OpenPGP (RSA 3072-bit keys). This means:
- Only you and the recipient can read your messages
- Messages are encrypted before leaving your browser
- We cannot read your private communications
- Your private encryption key is only stored on your device
Data Retention
To protect your privacy, we automatically delete data:
- Messages: Automatically deleted after 30 days
- Inactive Accounts: Deleted after 90 days of no login activity (including all listings, messages, and images)
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Create, edit, and delete your listings at any time
- Download your PGP encryption keys
- Stop using the service at any time - your account will be automatically deleted after 90 days of inactivity
Security
We implement security measures including:
- Password hashing with bcrypt
- End-to-end encryption for messages
- Secure session management
- No plaintext storage of sensitive data
